by Ivan Radev
It will be a strange journey. At times it will be naively
romantic, but it will also be violently critical of society, its norms,
its religions, but also hypercritical of myself. This collection of
essayistic short stories will examine the lunacy in all of us, but it
will never condemn it. No – it will embrace it – all of it – its
colorful hyper romanticism and its dark cynical urges.
In the beginning the book starts with short stories which set the
tone for what is to come. It delves into the seas of madness which are
explored throughout the whole piece. The initial parts are dark so that
the beautiful emotions later can shine that much brighter. Then the
concepts of freedom and revolution are introduced, so as to ready the
reader for the cornerstone stories. The first of those stories is that
of the Unhumans, inspired by Nietzsche’s Superman. The Unhumans are a
metaphor for the righteousness which is seemingly dead in this world.
Then, the journey inside the Lunatorium follows, which is the
centerpiece in the book. It examines in a very unconventional way the
different kinds of madness in this world, and attempts to make a stand
regarding what is right and what is wrong. The story of Lunatorium
continues on in Temporalia, a critical extrapolation of what the future
holds, if nothing is done to remedy the current problems of humanity.
Dystopic, but yet filled with hope, Temporalia is an adventure story
which takes place on Earth, underneath it, and across the stars.
Finally, a poetic conclusion summarizes the book, which will hopefully
remain a memorable experience for all those who read it.
